Dyslexia

The definition of the word dyslexia (in a broad sense), as we can find in a dictionary reads as follows: «Difficulty, more or less important, in learning to read and write when there is no intellectual deficit».

Previously, it was confined to the Greek roots of the word that is bad word in the proper sense or miswritten word. It was referred then to the calligraphy of the word, and only the one writing as in a mirror was recognized as dyslexic. In our modern schools, there are still some teachers on occasion who rely on this definition and do not declare the child as dyslexic when he is grappling with a number of learning difficulties in reading and writing.

It is perfectly true to say that a child who writes in mirror is dyslexic. It is also true that he can be dyslexic without writing in mirror. It is a symptom or a characteristic, but it is not the only one.

Indeed, dyslexics can have difficulty in identifying, understanding and reproducing written sounds and symbols.
For exemple, they might :

  1. Confuse the shape of the letter. b with d, n with u, m with w;
  2. Confuse sounds. f and v, t and c, sh and j;
  3. Reverse the letters in a syllable. pra for par;
  4. Reverse the syllables in a word: door and rod , ckrut and; truck
  5. Difficulties in deciphering similar sounds: bat with that; luppy for puppy
  6. Leave out (remove) letters or syllables. He will say throws for through;
  7. Or... simply substitute a word for another: pasture for a place where grass grows.
